Objective To explore the correlation between PTTG1 gene expression and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods The mRNA expression level of PTTG1 gene and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma patients were analyzed based on The Cancer Genome Atlsa (TCGA) database; the relationship between PTTG1 gene expression and the survival of hepatocellular carcinoma patients was studied based on the Kaplan-Meier Plotter database; the interaction network of PTTG1 and its interacting factors was constructed based on the STRING database; the co-expression network of PTTG1 in hepatocellular carcinoma was mined based on the LinkedOmics platform, and Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were conducted; the gene variation of PTTG1 in hepatocellular carcinoma was analyzed using the c-BioPortal platform combined with the TCGA database. Statistical analysis and data visualization were conducted using R 4.4.1 software.
Results The expression level of PTTG1 gene was significantly increased and showed variations in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues. Its expression level was correlated with the overall survival of hepatocellular carcinoma patients (P<0.05). Among the nodes in the PTTG1 interaction network, ESPL1 and PTTG2 had higher node degrees. In hepatocellular carcinoma, PTTG1 was mainly involved in regulating cell cycle transition and substance metabolism.
Conclusion The expression, variations, and regulatory mechanisms of PTTG1 gene may be associated with the occurrence, progression and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, which provided a reference for the further exploration of its functional role in hepatocellular carcinoma.
