Objective  To conduct a scoping review of the factors affecting benefit finding in cancer patients, and to provide reference for the related intervention research by utilizing positive psychology concepts and techniques.

Methods  The literature of benefit finding in cancer patients was retrieved from databases, including CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, CBM, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, Embase, and CINAHL, from the inception of the databases to May 7, 2024. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and evaluated the quality, summarized and analyzed the included literature.

Results  A total of 41 articles were involved, most of which discussed breast and cervical cancer. Most patients had  poor degree of benefit finding, which was affected by sociodemographic factors, disease-related factors, psychological factors, and others.

Conclusion Cancer patients' benefit finding is influenced by many intricate and diverse factors. To improve the level of benefit finding for cancer patients, multi-center and large-sample researches are needed to identify common issues in benefit finding, explore the pathway and relationship between each influencing factor and benefit finding, and provide a theoretical framework for formulating interventions and improving the level of benefit finding in cancer patients.
