Objective  To analyze the impact of Snyder hope theory combined with medical and nursing integrated meticulous nursing care on pain scores and quality of life in postoperative patients with colorectal cancer.

Methods  92 patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January 2021 to December 2022 were selected for a randomized controlled trial. They were divided into a control group and a study group with 46 patients in each group. The control group received routine nursing care, while the research group received Snyder hope theory combined with integrated medical and nursing care. The psychological status of patients was evaluated using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)/Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), the pain level was evaluated using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), the hope level was evaluated using the Herth Hope Scale (HHI), and the quality of life was evaluated using the Short Form Health Questionnaire (SF-36).

Results  The SAS and SDS scores of the study group after nursing were lower than those of the control group (P<0.001); the NRS scores of the study group were lower than those of the control group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th postoperative days (P<0.001); the study group showed higher scores for taking positive actions, maintaining close relationships with others, and having a positive attitude towards reality and the future after nursing care compared to the control group (P<0.05). After nursing, the SF-36 scores in the study group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05); the satisfaction rate of the research group was higher than that of the control group (95.65% vs. 76.09%, P<0.05).

Conclusion  The application of Snyder hope theory combined with integrated medical and nursing care for patients after colorectal surgery is beneficial for reducing pain, promoting improvement in quality of life, improving patients' psychological state, increasing their hope level, and promoting increased satisfaction.
