Construction of knowledge graph related to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in "Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion" based on Python and Neo4j

Abstract

Objective   To construct the knowledge graph related to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” based on Python and Neo4j.

Methods  Taking “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” as the data source, the data related to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment was extracted, an Excel database was established, including 5 items of information, such as volume name, disease, symptom, acupoint, and treatment. The extracted information was preprocessed and standardized. The constructed knowledge graph was analyzed using Python coding language and graph database Neo4j.

Results  The constructed knowledge graph related to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” covered 8 004 entity nodes, and on the basis of which, a total of 10 831 relationships among entity nodes were constructed. The entity nodes included the categories of volume name, disease, symptom, acupuncture point, and treatment, and the types of relationships included superior-subordinate relationship and therapeutic relationship. The relationships among diseases and symptoms, treatments, and acupoints were shown through visualization, making the entity relationships clearly visible.

Conclusion  “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” contains a wide range of diseases and the largest number of symptom nodes, demonstrating the richness of the book in terms of disease and symptom descriptions. The richness of the nodes of acupoints and treatments reflects the deep foundation of “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” in terms of acupuncture and moxibustion theories. By constructing a knowledge graph, man can not only understand and inherit the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment knowledge contained in “Pu Ji Fang-Acupuncture and Moxibustion” in a deeper way, but also promote the modernization process of acupuncture and moxibustion as well as its integration with artificial intelligence.
