Renal cell carcinoma without renal vein invasion and concomitant inferior vena cava tumor thrombus: a case report

Abstract

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with renal vein invasion and concomitant inferior vena cava tumor thrombus (IVCTT) is relatively common in clinical practice, whereas isolated IVCTT without renal vein involvement is rare. This rare case of RCC with a "skip" tumor thrombus indicates that a comprehensive assessment of the thrombus characteristics should be conducted preoperatively by integrating multimodal imaging and circulating tumor cell detection. Partial venectomy and venous reconstruction were performed after the pedunculated tumor thrombus was identified during surgery, and satisfactory follow-up results were achieved.
