Survey on the current status of humanistic care ability among nursing students in three higher vocational colleges in Henan Province

Abstract

Objective  To investigate the level of humanistic care ability of nursing students in three higher vocational colleges in Henan Province.

Methods  A total of 364 nursing students from three higher vocational colleges in Henan Province from 2020 to 2022 were selected as the study subjects by using the overall random sampling method. The general information questionnaire, the humanistic care ability scale (CAI), the emotional ability scale and the nursing professional commitment scale were used for the questionnaire survey.

Results  The total score of humanistic care ability of higher vocational nursing students was (180.69±18.19) , and the total score of humanistic care ability of nursing students in different grades was (170.11±24.53) in 2022, (181.89±21.74) in 2021, (174.55±20.03) in 2020, respectively, gender, different grade, harmonious relationship with classmates and teachers, different family location, nursing experience and the reason of choosing nursing specialty were the influencing factors of humanistic care ability (P<0.05).

Conclusion  The humanistic care ability of nursing students in three higher vocational colleges is at the middle level. Schools should increase the proportion of humanistic courses in the curriculum and formulate relevant strategies to improve the humanistic care ability of nursing students in higher vocational colleges.
