Objective  Based on the relevant contents of throat symptoms of epidemic diseases in ancient traditional Chinese medicine literature, the medication experience of ancient doctors in treating throat symptoms of epidemic diseases was explored.

Methods  Based on 45 ancient books of traditional Chinese medicine, a data table of throat symptoms of epidemic diseases containing 518 standardized structured data was established, and the correlation regularity between symptoms and medication was statistically analyzed using frequency statistics, association rules and binomial logistic regression.

Results  The included data were mainly characterized by sore throat, fever, swollen throat and other symptoms, and mainly by Gancao, Jiegeng, Lianqiao and other medicine. There is a correlation between throat symptoms and other symptoms, such as sore throat, swollen throat, and fever often occurring together. There is a strong regularity in the medicine compatibility of throat symptoms of epidemic diseases. The commonly used couplet medicines include Huanglian-Huangqin and so on. For different throat symptoms in epidemic diseases, there are different traditional Chinese medicine with high probability of use. For example, for the symptom of pharyngeal redness, the traditional Chinese medicine with high probability of use is Zhibanxia, Jinyinhua and Jingjie.

Conclusion  When ancient doctors treat epidemic diseases with throat symptoms, there is a strong regularity in medicine compatibility; for different throat symptoms of epidemic diseases, there are different medicine preferences.
