Objective  To explore the effect of timeliness incentive nursing on patients after laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer.

Methods  The rectal cancer patients who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer in The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January 2022 to January 2023 were selected and divided into an observation group and a control group according to random number method. The control group received routine nursing intervention, and the observation group received timeliness incentive nursing intervention based on routine nursing. Mental resilience, self-care ability, social support and quality of life were compared between two groups at admission and three months after discharge.

Results  There were 69 cases in the observation group and control group respectively. At admission, there were no significant differences in scores of mental resilience, self-care ability, social support and quality of life between two groups (P>0.05). Three months after discharge, the scores of optimism, self-reliance and tenacity in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The scores of self-concept, self-care responsibility, self-care skills and health knowledge in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The scores of objective support, subjective support and support availability in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The scores of social function, emotional function, role function and physical function in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The differences of scores between two groups were all statistically significant (P<0.001).

Conclusion  Timeliness incentive nursing can improve the self-care ability, mental resilience and social support of patients after laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery, and improve their quality of life.
