Abstract

Objective  To explore the mental health status and its influencing factors of primary healthcare staffs in midwest areas of Inner Mongolia, and to provide reference for effective psychological intervention for primary healthcare staffs.

Methods  The method of stratified cluster sampling was used to select 1 409 primary healthcare staffs in midwest areas of Inner Mongolia. Symptoms self-evaluation scale (SCL-90) was used to conduct a questionnaire survey on them.

Results  The positive rate of psychological abnormality detection among primary healthcare staffs in Midwest areas of Inner Mongolia was 17.38%. The positive rate of depression, somatization and hostility were 26.11%, 24.89% and 19.31%, respectively. Nurses scored higher than doctors in 7 factors: somatization, compulsion, interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, hostility, and fear(P<0.05). The univariate results showed that the mental health status of primary healthcare staffs who were female, nurses, monthly salary less than 5 000 yuan, and night shift frequency greater than 3 times per month was poor (P<0.05). The results of multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that monthly salary and night shift frequency were the main factors affecting the mental health status of primary healthcare staffs.

Conclusion  The overall mental health level of primary healthcare staffs in midwest areas of Inner Mongolia was not optimistic. It is suggested that mental health education should be strengthened for them, and psychological support and counseling should be provided to effectively improve their mental health level.
