Objective  To analyze the effect of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) combined with comfort care on elderly patients with neck of femur fracture (FNF).

Methods  82 elderly patients with neck of femur fracture who were admitted to Kaifeng People's Hospital from August 2020 to August 2022 were selected and divided into the control group and the study group, with 41 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing care, and the study group received ERAS combined with comfort nursing care. The psychological status, hip joint function, pain degree, complications and quality of life of the two groups were compared.

Results  After nursing, the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores of the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.001). The Harris scores of the study group were higher than those of the control group at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after nursing (P<0.001). The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of the study group at 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days after surgery were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of complications in the study group was lower than that in the control group (4.88% vs. 24.39%, P=0.012). The social function, psychological function, physical function, and material life scores of the study group after nursing were higher than those of the control group (P<0.001).

Conclusion  The application of ERAS combined with comfort care in elderly FNF patients is beneficial for reducing complications, promoting patients' quality of life, alleviating postoperative pain, promoting hip joint function improvement, and improving patients' psychological status.
