Painful heel syndrome is a syndrome characterized by plantar heel pain, and one of the orthopedic clinical common diseases. The clinical treatment is intractable, and the etiologies are various and complex. Traditional Chinese medicine has its own unique insights on the etiology and pathogenesis, and has unique advantages over western medicine in treatment. The disease is mainly characterized by deficiency of the liver and kidney, stagnation of qi and blood stasis. Treatment is based on tonifying the liver and kidney, activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, supplemented by benefiting qi and nourishing blood, dispelling wind and dispersing cold, clearing heat and removing dampness, and regulating qi and resolving phlegm, etc. By means of internal, external and both internal and external treatments, the pain can be effectively relieved.
